PLANS for a parish council in Brandon Groves, South Ockendon are up for discussion this month.
A parish council (or town council or comment council) is an elected body that can have tax raising powers.
Brandon Groves is a housing estate off the South Road in South Ockendon.
There will be a public meeting at 7pm on Monday October 12th at the Brandon Groves Community Centre.
Ockendon councillor, Barry Johnson (Cons) said: "The meeting will be chaired by the Brandon Groves Parish Council Steering Committee.
"It will be an open discussion and will give an indication as to whether or not there is an appetite for a parish council.
"The idea came about as I was receiving many calls and emails regarding the upkeep of the estate and from discussions with the then CEO that the council would not be in a position to improve the upkeep and possibly things such as grass cutting could undertaken on a less regular basis.
"As a resident of the estate I do believe that the idea is worth considering with a view to the future upkeep however I would point out that as an elected councillor, I will vote with the majority.
YT has also contacted the two UKIP councillors but we have yet to receive a response.
