BONE fragments have been found in East Tilbury.
Essex Police were called at 1245 hrs today (Tuesday) after construction workers had reported unearthing bone fragments.
The workers were operating on Princess Margaret Road, close to the Coalhouse Fort area.
Forensic officers were called and the remains have been taken away for analysis.
The remains were found close to a churchyard and a plague burial pit site.
Essex Police believe that the bones are of "a significant age" but will state further once all the necessary tests have been undertaken.
