Thurrock’s identical twins celebrate their 100th birthdays!

IDENTICAL twins Ruby Lister and Millie Lambert were both celebrating on Wednesday (11 November) – it was their 100 birthday.

Friends, family and carers gathered at the Piggs Corner complex in Grays to join the pair.

Both are Essex born and bred – born in Shenfield – and now they both live in Thurrock.

Mrs Lister moved to Aveley in 1968, when she married her second husband, moving to Piggs Corner in 1982 after she was widowed and in increasingly poor health.

Mrs Lambert now lives at the Oakhouse care home in Stanford-le-Hope, moving to Thurrock after sopending 70 years in her Shenfield home.

Sons Ivan Lambert and Terry Fortis regaled staff with stories of the twins fun and games from younger years, such as when they went out as a foursome and switched partners partway through the evening without telling anyone.

Both Ruby and Lister worked at the Selo photographic film factory in Brentwood for many years – including during the Second World War – and Ivan said: “On their 95 birthday they were officially the oldest twins in Britain, I guess that means they’re the oldest 100-year-old twins in the country now!”

And Terry said he has “peace of mind knowing that mum is well cared for in Piggs Corner where I visit several times a week.”
