GRAYS High Street has suffered a blow with the news that the HSBC bank is set to close next year.
Customers received letters during the week.
A spokesperson for HSBS bank said: "The bank will will close on 5th February 2016.
"We never take the decision to close a branch lightly, and we understand it’s unsettling for the local community.
"Unfortunately, the use of the Grays branch has fallen significantly over the past few years, and we’ve taken the difficult decision to close it.
"Although we will not be leaving an ATM following the closure, there are currently a number of fee-free ATM cash machines in the local area for customers to use".
YT understands that the nearest branch will be Basildon.
