46 Maths students at Palmer’s College took part in the Senior Mathematical Challenge run by the UK Mathematics Trust.
The SMC encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The SMC was established as the National Mathematics Contest in 1961 and in recent years there have been over 100,000 entries from around 200 schools and colleges.
Certificates are awarded to the highest scoring 60% of candidates and 37 Palmer’s students were awarded either a Gold, Silver or Bronze. Luke Bentley received a Gold award and was the best student in Year 13, 11 students received Silver awards, including Marco Daz who was the best student in Year 12, and 15 students received Bronze awards.
Mark Vinall, Principal of Palmer’s College said, “We are extremely proud of our maths students who took part in the challenge and they should be proud of their achievement.”
