ESSEX County Council is suspending its roadworks programme over Christmas and New Year to minimise congestion for families visiting relatives and friends across the county.
Work will cease from Wednesday, 23 December and resume on Monday, 4 January.
As well as all routine maintenance and resurfacing projects, the suspension affects the following major schemes:
Harlow – A414/First Avenue roundabout junction improvement scheme.
Colchester – A133 Cymbeline Way and Colne Bank Avenue widening scheme.
Basildon – Basildon Hospital Access Road carriageway dualling scheme.
Maldon – A414 Maldon to Chelmsford corridor improvement scheme.
Cllr Eddie Johnson, Essex County Council Cabinet Member for Highways Delivery, said: “We want to make it easier for everyone visiting family and friends this Christmas. Suspending work on our road improvement projects over the festive period is the best way to ensure drivers have a care-free Christmas and New Year.”
An Essex Highways team will be on duty throughout the festive period to respond to emergencies, monitor weather conditions and carry out road gritting operations.
