PARENTS of children heading to primary school in September next year are running out of time to apply for reception year classes.
If the child was born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012, parents must apply for their reception school place – or if your child is in the last year at an infant school, you must apply for a junior school place – by Friday 15 January.
Any application received after the closing date is classed as “late”, reducing the chance of being offered a place at the preferred schools.
Cllr John Kent, Thurrock Council Leader and portfolio holder for education, said: “Thurrock works very closely with schools across the borough to ensure as many people as possible get their first choice school, but applying within the deadline increases those chances considerably.
“The easiest way to apply is online through the council’s website, this means you will not only get an email acknowledgement of your application, but you will also be able to check which school place has been offered from 18 April when they are announced.
“Don’t put it off and risk forgetting to apply.”
The website – thurrock.gov.uk/admissions – includes the primary school admissions 2016, brochure and parents are asked to take time reading it before following the instructions for applying.
