Be amazed at the Royal Opera House Inspiration Day

THE Royal Opera House in Thurrock is running one of its popular Inspiration Days on Friday 29 January. This Inspiration Day is for anyone who wants to find out more about the backstage work of the ROH with a practical focus on stage make-up.

Â

The Inspiration Day runs at the Royal Opera House Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop at High House Production Park in Purfleet. It includes a ‘Discover Session’, which will focus on the importance of costume in performance. Participants will get the opportunity to follow a director’s vision and design a costume for a well-known production.Â

After lunch, which is included in the price, experienced make-up artist, Nicola Downey, will lead a hands-on practical session based on stage make-up.

No experience is needed to take part in an Inspiration Day, just enthusiasm and an interest in finding out more about the backstage crafts of the Royal Opera House.

The Inspiration Day also includes a tour of the Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop and new Bob and Tamar Manoukian Costume Centre to see the craftspeople at work.

The Inspiration Day begins at 11am and ends at 3pm. Spaces are very limited and booking is essential. The cost including lunch is £25 or £20 for those under 18. If you would like more information, please either email getinvolved@roh.org.uk or call 01708 891200. Bookings can be made directly with the Royal Opera House Box Office on 020 7304 4000 or online at www.roh.org.uk/functions/inspiration-days

Inspiration Days and the public tours at the Royal Opera House Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop have proved extremely popular. Since the regular tour programme began running in 2012, more than 3000 people have caught a fascinating glimpse into the skills and talents of the many scenic painters, carpenters and metalworkers who work at the state-of-the-art workshop.

The Royal Opera House Bob and Tamar Manoukian Costume Centre was opened in October 2015 and is now included in the tours, offering an insight into the detail and skill that goes into the costumes made especially for ballet and opera.

Inspiration Days have been running since 2013 and offer a more in-depth look at the many different behind the scenes skills that are needed to create the world-class productions at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden.
