Essex and Eastern Indoor Championships 6/7th Feb 2016 @ Lee valley, London.
AN amazing 28 medals and lots of PBs were snatched up by well deserving Thurrock Athletes this weekend at Lee Valley.
Senior woman Natalie Lebeau, brought home one of each, a Essex bronze in the 200m (27.84s), a Eastern Silver in the Long Jump and an Essex Gold in the same event with a jump of (5.15m). Veteran thrower Sue Lawrence also took part during the weekend, earning herself a Silver Essex medal and a Bronze Eastern medal.
U17w Kendrea Nwaelene gained a good time in the 200m (26.48s). Missed out on a medal in the 60m with a time of (8.15s). Seniz Jessener earned an Essex Bronze medal in the Triple Jump (8.73m). Jessica Whitbread jumped (4.64m) in the Long Jump and brought home an Essex Gold and Eastern Silver medal for her jump in the Triple Jump with a jump of (9.60m).
U17m William Adeyeye won a Gold medal in both Essex and Eastern after a PB throw of (15.01m), a throw of national standard and a now a competition record!, this places him 1st in the UK for his age group.
U15g Ellise Milan-Vega gained a PB in the 60m hurdles (9.02s). Ruby Bridger also brought home 2 PBs, in shot (7.78m) and 60m hurdles (9.74s). Chloe Locke took part in Shot put throwing (6.60m) and added another 10cm distance to her jump to give her a PB in Long jump (3.40m) adding a total of 38cm’s in the last two competitions, not bad for a thrower!. Funminyi Olajide ran a PB of (8.18s) in the 60m and jumped a massive (5.36m) in Long Jump, adding 46cm! onto her jump distance, earning her the Champion title and Gold medals in both Essex and Eastern regions, she is also now 2nd in the UK rankings for her age group.
U13g Funmi Adewole raced well on the day, 60m Hurdles gaining a PB time of (12.2s) and another PB in the 200m (30.08s) she brought home a PB and an Essex bronze medal.
U15b Leon Wheeler, took home an Essex Bronze and a PB in the 800m with a time of (2.15.17s). Gbenga Adewole jumped (3.17m) in the Long Jump. Daniel Ogutuga brought home 2 PBs and 4 medals on the day, he gained a fantastic 20cm PB height in the High Jump (1.60m) earning him an Essex and Eastern silver medal. In the 200m he gained a Bronze medal in both the Essex and the Eastern with a PB time of (25.14s).
Theo Adesina took home the biggest haul with a total of 10 medals! 8 Gold and 2 silver.
Over the weekend, he jumped (5.55m) in Long Jump, earning him a Gold in both Eastern and Essex, he gained a PB in shot with throw of (12.33m) again achieving a Gold in Essex and Eastern, but also ranking him 3rd in the UK for his age group. He smashed his PB in the high jump (1.75m) taking home Gold again for both regions. In the 300m he took Gold in both Essex and Eastern with a time of (39.63s) and finally a Silver Medal in both Essex and Eastern for his run in 60m hurdles with a PB time of (8.92s).
Amazing results from an amazing bunch of athletes, both coaches and parents are very proud of all the athletes that took part this weekend.
