A THURROCK mum has been jailed by Basildon magistrates after admitting her children had failed to attend school regularly.
The woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was appearing before the court for the eighth time. Previously she had received conditional discharges, Community Orders with supervision, fines, various working programmes, and was put on a training and employment course.
She faced charges that her three children failed to attend school regularly and was jailed for two weeks for each.
The magistrates also invoked an eight-week suspended sentence from August and added a further 22 days to her sentence to represent her inability to pay costs. In total she was jailed for 16 weeks.
In a second case where two parents denied the charge for their one child, the magistrates found the pair guilty and issued a conditional discharge but ordered the payment of £60 in costs.
Both cases were heard on Wednesday, 30 March.
