STIFFORD Clays residents are angry after Thurrock Council told them they need to pay for their bins, even though they were stolen.
At least five residents in the area had their bis stolen last weekend (April 16-17) but when they contacted Thurrock Counci, they were informed that they would have to pay for the replacements.
A council spokesperson said: "The council policy is that should you require a new bin, for whatever reason, you would need to pay £30.
"The only exception to this is when a bin has been damaged by a refuse vehicle, in which case the bin will be replaced free of charge.
"The cost is reduced to £15 for the elderly and for those on benefits".
