STAFF at Basildon University Hospital were not going to let the 102nd birthday of patient Maurice Jackson pass by without celebration.
Ward staff on the Short Stay Ward helped Maurice celebrate with a cooked breakfast, the latest copy of his favourite magazine about historic battles and a cake, kindly donated by Costco Thurrock.
Maurice, who ran the naval sick bay in Felixstowe for two-and-a-half years during the Second World War, before returning to Grays, praised the staff on the ward. He said:
“They are a lovely bunch and I’ve been very well looked after.”
Maurice, who has a fractured ankle, still lives independently in Grays and has worked locally for Essex County Council and the NHS.
