Community Hub in Tilbury opens

THURROCK’S latest community hub opened in Tilbury on Monday (9 May).

Combining the library service with a community offer, the hub volunteers started working locally last October, supporting residents with anything from getting on-line to socialising with people with similar interests.

The hub is based at Civic Square, Tilbury, and will be open Monday to Friday from 9am, closing at 5pm on Mondays and Fridays, and 4.30pm Tuesday to Thursday.

On Saturdays it will be open from 10am to 1pm.

Barnard (Barney) Hill, chair of the Tilbury hub working group, said: “Hubs across Thurrock provide friendly, safe venues for residents to get more involved, and receive support with a range of issues over a cup of tea.

“Initially residents can come to the hub for information, help with IT and with using tablets on Friday mornings; and a craft and arts group and a coffee morning every Wednesday morning.

“We are looking to increase the local offer in the coming weeks including Baby Rhyme Time and we are really keen to attract more volunteers to help at the hub, or with taking ideas forward in the future as part of a management committee.

“My message to residents is get involved, come in and see for yourself what is on offer.”

The Tilbury bub has been refurbished with investment from Thurrock Council, and an area is provided for staff working in the community. It will enable residents to self-serve library issues and returns at all times, with staff available every Monday, Friday and Saturday.

Anyone wanting more information should call into the hub, or telephone 01375 842612.
