THURROCK Primary Schools District Team won the Essex League at the weekend to bring to an end a fantastic season. The team, selected after trials in September and made up of the best players from Thurrock’s primary schools have had a successful season.
Not only did they win the league, they also were runners-up in the prestigious Southern Counties Cup and were semi-finalists in the London Lester Finch Cup. The team has also qualified to represent the South East of England in the Premier League national finals.
Kevin Watts, co-manager, said, ‘It’s been a fantastic season. To beat the likes of Havering, Barking, Chelmsford and Newham and to remain unbeaten in the league is no mean feat as they are difficult teams to play against. We have remained unbeaten at home all season in all competitions and represented the borough extremely well on the FA endorsed tournament in Jersey. The players have been a credit to their school, family and borough.’
The team consists of: Alfie Mackenzie, David Roberts, Bobby Root (Aveley), Freddie Hesketh (Belmont Castle), Archie Corner (Bulphan), Samuel Griek (Dilkes), Adam Pankhurst (Graham James), Joseph Ogundie-Cole (Harris), Harley Gray (Lansdowne), Cailan Johnston (Quarry Hill), Kaelan Casey (Captain – Shaw), Toniyi Kuku (St Thomas’)
