East Thurrock United lose star defender to Welling but re-sign winger Harris

By Eric White

EAST Thurrock United defender, Rickie Hayles, who scored in their recent 3-1 play-off final win over Dulwich Hamlet to clinch promotion, has signed for Welling United.

The signing was confirmed yesterday and Hayles is one of a host of signings made by the club in the past week as manager Mark Goldberg looks to keep improving the side.

Both teams will face off against each other next season after East Thurrock’s play-off victory ensured them promotion to Vanarama National League South.

Meanwhile, East Thurrock have signed a player of their own from Welling United, as they have announced winger Reece Harris has re-joined the club.

Harris left in East Thurrock in January 2015 with Welling playing in the National League at the time before their relegation at the end of last season.

East Thurrock United manager will no doubt be delighted at the return of Harris after he enjoyed a successful spell at Welling.

He is popular amongst the home fans and manager Coventry will hope his return to the club can spearhead their charge up the league next season as the club look to kick on from their promotion in what looks to be a bright future.
