YOUNG people in south Essex are being encouraged to register for a free six-week programme that could help propel them into employment.
Plan B is a full-time course for 16 to 24 year olds that aims to equip them with essential skills to secure work.
Run by Essex County Council’s Youth Service, the latest programme starts on June 20 in Basildon, where 5.9 per cent of young people are currently NEET (not in education, employment or training).
It has already been run in various other areas of the county, with more than 84 per cent of participants going straight into employment or training as a result.
Cllr Ray Gooding, Essex County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “We are committed to ensuring all young people receive the support needed to achieve their full potential.
“Programmes such as Plan B can play a vital role in equipping them with the skills and experience needed to find and sustain employment.
“I would encourage anyone who is struggling to find work or unsure what they want to do to sign up and take part.”
The latest programme will take place at Basildon Youth Centre (Southernhay, Basildon, Essex SS14 1EL) and include outdoor team activities, career planning, employability skills and a work experience placement.
It is free to attend and travel costs will be covered. Ongoing support will also be available after the programme finishes to track the progress of participants and help ensure they remain in work.
