NGAGE, the community organisation and Volunteer Centre for Thurrock organised a community clear-up day in Purfleet following feedback from local residents who took part in the recent Purfleet survey.
The ‘Make a difference day’ clear up was organised in partnership with McDonalds.
Fifteen employees from McDonald’s stores located in Lakeside 1, Lakeside 2, West Thurrock, Mountnessing and Hornchurch helped out as part of their employee volunteering programme.
Hayley Carter, People Manager for McDonald’s said “We had such a great time and would like to thank ngage for the opportunity to get involved. Between us we managed to collect 64 bags of rubbish, aswell as a sofa, chair, wardrobe, bike, scooter, toilet system and much more”.
Annette Lewis, community worker for ngage said” We were overwhelmed with what we achieved. The staff from McDonalds worked really well and we were able to clear two housing estates and many of the local streets near the school and around Purfleet station. We would like to thank McDonalds for all their hard work and commitment to the day, and a special thanks to Thurrock Councils environment team”.
The clean-up event was held in volunteer’s week which is an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution 22 million volunteers make across the UK.
Volunteers’ week has been extended and is taking place between 1-12 June. Whether volunteers give a little time or a lot, the contribution volunteers make is worth celebrating. So why not become a volunteer today by visiting Volunteer Essex at www.volunteeressex.org.
