WILLIAM Edwards School is the lucky winner of a trip to Iceland. Head of Geography at the school, Karen Hewlett, entered the competition run by school tour operator, Halsbury Travel.
Karen Hewlett (Head of Geography) said: "We’re elated by winning such a fantastic competition to Iceland. It’s an amazing opportunity for our students and a great way to bring lessons learnt in the classroom to life. We’re really excited about our upcoming trip and would like to thank Halsbury for a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
In celebration of their 30th anniversary, the company was offering one lucky school the opportunity to travel to Iceland for the 1980’s roll back price of just £259 per person, which today would normally cost £699 per person.
Sue Sharkey, Director of Halsbury Travel and a former Geography teacher, said:
"We wanted to mark our 30th anniversary with a competition that would give more children the opportunity to experience the educational benefits of a school trip. We chose Iceland because it’s one of our most popular destinations and offers students the opportunity to see a staggering range of geographic features. It’s a real paradise for geographers!"
On their four day trip, William Edwards School will have the opportunity to see some of the country’s most spectacular sights including hot springs, glaciers, volcanoes and, if they’re lucky, the Northern Lights. The 35 students and four teachers are due to travel in Spring 2017.
