Police car chase leads to man arrested for purse snatch from pensioner


A man has been charged with committing a burglary in Chadwell St Mary.

Frank Smith, 41, of Manford Way, Chigwell, will appear at Basildon Magistrates Court today, Friday, August 12, charged with burglary and dangerous driving.

Cash was stolen from a property in Orsett Heath Crescent on Wednesday, August 10.

Officers are continuing to investigate a series of burglaries where a man posing as a gardener had stolen items from the homes of elderly people.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.

A MAN is being questioned about a series of burglaries in Thurrock after he was arrested following a police pursuit.

Officers were called after a man posing as a gardener tried to steal a purse from an elderly victim at Orsett Heath Road, Grays at about 10.am on Wednesday August 10.

The man was disturbed in the property and fled to a car and drove off.

Police later saw the car in Grays but the driver failed to stop. Officer pursued the car on to the A1306 where the driver abandoned the vehicle and ran off towards the A13. He was arrested at 10.47am.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and six burglaries at the homes of elderly people where a man had posed as a gardener.

A 41-year-old man from Chigwell remains in custody today as enquiries continue.
