Owen Smith tells the voters of Thurrock: "There is hope"

THE CANDIDATE for the Labour Party leadership, Owen Smith came to south Essex on Friday night to detail the reasons he is standing against the present leader, Jeremy Corbyn.

Mr Smith was introduced by Baroness Smith of Basildon, who was the MP for South Basildon and East Thurrock between 1997 and 2010.

Mr Smith gave an overview of his campaign and programme before invite questions from the floor.

Many Labour supporters were extremely candid. One councillor said: "At the moment, the Labour brand on the doorstep is toxic."
