YT understands that Grays Athletic have taken a step closer to finding a location for their new ground after the announced on their website that William Edwards School confirmed that the club is an important part of the Blackshots sports hub.
Following an open meeting last on Tuesday 13 September at William Edwards School, Steve Munday, the Head Teacher, gave the following information:
Mr Munday is reported to have said: ”The school’s application for the new school will be submitted this month. There will be an interview with the Department for Education in January 2017 and a decision on the funding for the new school will be made in March 2017.
"If it is approved, it is planned to open the new school on council-owned land east of Blackshots in September 2019.
"It could also lead to the relocation of Grays Athletic Football Club on part of the land as an important part of the "Blackshots Sports Hub".
It is most welcome news for the Blues who have had a nomadic existence since leaving the New Recreation Ground in 2010. They currently groundshare with Aveley and their time away from the town of Grays has also seen them lodging at East Thurrock United as well as a one-season spell at West Ham United’s Rush Green Road facility.
