THURROCK’S environment portfolio holder is delighted with the progress teams are making with cutting green spaces in the borough.
Cllr Pauline Tolson is clear that the ‘Cut it’ part of Clean it, Cut it, Fill it is making a real difference for people in the borough.
This summer, parks and green spaces have been cut every three weeks and the quicker schedule means the extra grass cut is equivalent to cutting Hyde Park three times.
Varying schedules in the past have left some areas to overgrow, preventing residents from enjoying them.
Cllr Tolson said: “After a rough start with unhelpful weather at the beginning of the summer and since the introduction of new equipment and staff, green spaces in the borough are in a much better condition for everyone to enjoy. I want to thank the teams involved for all their hard work.
“There is still more work to be done – especially the road verges on some routes – but the appearance of parks and open spaces has clearly improved.”

Last week, the council revealed that the "pilot" campaign had cost over £250,000. There were no guarantees that it would continue past the pilot stage.
