Stay of execution for East Tilbury Medical Centre

IT looks like East Tilbury Medical Centre has had a stay of execution as the threat of closure looks to be on hold.A letter from NHS England and seen by YT has stated the the closure has been “paused”.Close to two hundred residents attended a meeting at the Coronation Avenue centre last week (Wed Oct 12th).The meeting had been organised by members of the East Tilbury Patient Participation Group (PPG)In what has been described as a highly charged atmosphere, residents were able to put questions to the representatives of NHS England. Many residents were highly critical at the lack of communication regarding the closure.Whilst praising the PPG, many questioned who they had “batting for them” and were alarmed to understand that the NHS had known about the closure back in June. The core problem was that the building was in the hands of the recievers. It is hoped that Thurrock Council may be able to buy the building. In many ways, the issue has highlighted the ongoing health crisis in Thurrock but it has also pulled into question whether there is anyone in central of the situation.
