ESSEX Firefighters were called to a flat fire in Fielding Avenue, Tilbury.
When crews arrived at the property they reported the fire was in a first floor flat which was 100% smoke logged.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus entered the property, rescued one male and extinguished the fire by 23:31hrs.
The man was left in the care of the ambulance service.
An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place.
