Thurrock 5 v 7 Chingford
A second successive defeat but it does not tell the whole story, how a team can dominate the game and lose was very evident as the game was decided on two penalty tries one given one not, also a good try not given the referee claiming he was unsighted. It was that sort of day.
The visitors did start off slightly the better and a tackle on the winger and a knock on from the same move the whole crowd was silenced when the referee ran under the posts and awarded a penalty try no yellow card to any Thurrock player for an infringement no justice as little did they know that the descision mean with 15 minutes gone and Chingford leading 7-0
The game was now all the home side as desperate defending kept the home side at bay, Gabriel Papuni went over under the posts, a try not given, it was all one way traffic as Thurrock was totally in control then came then game the call that lost Thurrock the a deliberate knock-on resulted in a yellow card for the Chingford winger, but had the ball reached Jake Barrand on the wing he had a 10 metre free run to score, certainly should have been a penalty try. Charlie Currie soon went over but Barrand’s conversion kick from wide missed the left hand upright
Thurrock still had time to attack but to no avail and the ball was kicked out of play the referee blew his final whistle and the home side support certainly made their feelings known.
It is a shame that the game was clouded and more talk about the referee than the game itself
