SOUTH Essex College’s marketing team have made it through to the finals of the Chartered Institute of Marketing’s Marketing Excellence Awards for their summer campaign.

The campaign consisted of many events including the College’s Summer Beach Bash at Adventure Island, giveaway days at Shakeaway and the Odeon cinema in Southend plus the #Enrolfest bus tour visiting places across the county and taking part in Southend Carnival.

The team have been shortlisted in the Innovation – not-for-profit/public sector category and they’re up against strong competitors such as the NHS, Durham Cathedral and Seafood Week. Winners will be crowned at a glitzy awards evening in April, taking place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The aim of a keeping warm campaign is to convert applicants to enrolments. Marketing devised the plan to keep in touch with potential students through the summer holidays leading up to the College’s busy enrolment period in September.

Other communication strategies featured in the campaign were the College’s student magazine called LIFE and their popular countdown to enrolment social media competition.

The team have previously been nominated and won awards in the education sector including FE First Awards and TES FE Awards.

Michael Bennett, Head of Marketing and Communications at the College, said: “This campaign is very important to us, because we want all our applicants to feel special. The transition from school to college can be daunting for many young people, and we are determined to make it as stress free as possible.

“We want to give our applicants the chance to experience college life, allay any fears and support them every step of the way. We are thrilled that this activity has been recognised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing.”
