Rugby: Thurrock fall to Eton Manor

Thurrock 19 v 27 Eton Manor

THURROCK’S miserable 2017 continued at the hands of their East London rivals. Dogged by injuries losing both Grant Scott and Tom Worsfold at Brentwood the previous week, a reshuffled back line took a little while

Nimmo Thurrock to settle as Manor scored a converted in the first five minutes. But on the plus side it was good to see the return of scrum half Alex Jones after a 7 game absence has he poached a try near the posts only for the conversion to be badly missed. It was Jones again who went over to give Thurrock the lead with Troy Michie adding the conversion to lead 12-7 but the lead was squandered late in the half as the visitors score a converted try and a penalty to lead 17-12 at the break.

Eton Manor stretched their lead shortly into the second half with an unconverted try.Thurrock had moments in the second half which mostly they failed to turn into points with Andrew Nimmo and Earl Gorman to the fore with some strong tackle busting running, and it was the former who made a 45 metre break giving Charlie Currie the chance to touch down under the posts, Michie converting Thurrock back in it could they score again quickly, encamped in the Manor 22 Thurrock kept pounding away but a penalty denied the chance to go over a quick counter attacked from the visitors turned attack from defence in an instant and scored another try to stretch their lead which they held comfortably until the end
