THURROCK Swimming Club participated in the last block of the Essex Age Group Championships. There were great individual and team performances and Thurrock finished 5th out of 30 clubs – the highest position for many years.
Nikita Charykin won the award for top 10/11-year-old boy after coming 1st in the 200m Individual Medley, 1st in the 200m flyover, 1st in the 200m freestyle and 2nd in the 100m breast-stroke. Elise Delapperall won her first gold in the 200m backstroke and another gold in the 100m event, 3rd in the 400m freestyle, 4th in the 100m freestyle and 5th in the 200m breast-stroke. Rebecca West achieved 6th place in the 200m back-stroke and 7th in the 200m Individual Medley. Ben Minister came 3rd in the 200 Individual Medley, 3rd in the 200m free-style, 6th in the 100m breast-stroke. Jenson Hurrell came 4th in the 200m Individual Medley and 5th in the 200m fly-over, 200m freestyle and 400m Individual Medley. Harrison Jarvis achieved a fantastic 2nd place in the 400m Individual Medley & 100m breast-stroke, 4th in the 200m Individual Medley and 8th in the 200m fly-over. Jasmine Verlander came 3rd In the 100m back-stroke, 200m back-stroke & 100m free-style. Luke Crofts achieved 2nd in the 400m Individual Medley, 3rd in the 200m free-style and 200m breast-stroke, 6th in the 100m back-stroke and 100m fly-over. Alexa Miles-Stevens attained 5th in the 200m breast-stroke.
Aaron Lambie came 8th in the 200m fly-over. Jimmy Taylor earned 3rd place in the 200m flyover and 8th in the 400m Individual Medley. Mide Olajide achieved a fantastic 2nd place in the 200m fly-over and 6th in the 400m Individual Medley. Azar Aitmarri gained 6th place in both the 400m Individual Medley and 100m fly-over. Martine Tran came 6th place in the 100m free-style and 7th place in the 200m Individual Medley. Daniel Ajetummobi achieved 4th place in the 100m breast-stroke and Michaela Taiwo came 7th in the 100m free-style. Tilly Mayes came 3rd in the 100m free-style and 4th in the 100m fly-over. Sophie Drake came 5th In the 200m Individual Medley, Samuel Barella came 7th in the 100m fly-over, Bethany Byrne achieved 4th in the 200m fly-over and Kiara Marais came in 7th in the 100m fly-over.
Thurrock relay teams also performed exceptionally well. The boys 200m Individual Medley team (11/12 years old) Jenson Hurrell, Daniel Ajetommobi, Nikita Charykin and Colin Moghina finished easy winners. Albert Taylor, Ben Minister, Ethan Paraiwa and Aiden Wood also swam well in the 200m Individual Medley event.
In the women’s 200m Individual Medley, Sophie Drake, Rebecca West, Martine Tran and Abigale Still finished in 3rd place and the girls BAGCAT team of Phoebe Brennan, Gracie Mae Martin, Kiara Marais & Tilly Mayes finished in 7th. Lillian Tagg, Ellie Martin, Radost Milkova, Cate Diaz also swam well in the same event.
Boys BAGCAT free teams James Edgings, Jack Conroy, Mide Olajide, Jimmy Taylor, Aaron Lambie, Robert Buckley, Matteo Castello and Harrison Jarvis swam well. Men’s team consisting of Samuel Barella, Kieron Harris, Azar Aitmarri and Luke Crofts all completed in the 200m free-style event.
The girls 11/12-year-old free-style team Michaela Taiwo, Jasmine Verlander, Bryony Edgings and Teni Ogunlesi finished a strong 4th. Caitlin Murray, Elise Delapperall, Alexa Miles-Steven and Madalyne Allkins also completed well in the same event.

Overall a fantastic swim for all of the swimmers at Thurrock Swimming Club.
