Love Grays event on High Street

Grays High Street Dec

TO launch LOVE GRAYS, a new initiative by business led Grays Town Management Partnership, a huge exhibition – Love Letter to My Hometown: Grays – will fill the High Street, on Saturday 25 February: 10am – 5pm

All over town you will find LOVE GRAYS postcards, designed and sent in by local school children, showcasing what they love about their local town, Grays. On the day, there will be more postcards waiting for your best creative message.  It can be a drawing, a poem, a letter, just a symbol or anything you like.

To celebrate the launch, local arts charity Metal have collaborated with the Grays Town Management Partnership to develop a fun-packed day of arts, crafts and live music delivered by local people. Music on site includes, Quest Music who will be running a vibrant interactive music area where you can sing or take part in positive rap and spoken word workshops. You can then create and perform your poems, or Love Letters, to Grays, on stage backed by a full sound system.

Local artist, Arooj Khan, will be hosting calligraphy workshops while artist, Emma Edmondson, will be offering some collage and poetry sessions. Artist, Ben Connors, will work with the public to create colourful cartoons celebrating the town. Presenting one of their famous paint offs is Thurrock Art Collective – kids will also be able to take part with mini-canvasses which they can paint alongside the ‘Paint Off’ artists. In addition the Collective have been tasked with programming a busking hut which will be open and bustling with live music and performers all day. Down at Grays Library there will be Twitter and Instagram workshops, for those who want to take part digitally.

In addition to this the main stage, located on the High Street, will host a variety of performances from choral singing to Bollywood dancing. Watch out for the brilliant local Creative Blast, Golden Voices Choir, Grays Town Band, Celebrate Theatre and much more!

  1. There is no polite way of saying it. Grays is a dump. It’s full of estate agents and pound shops.

It says it all that when the College moved in WH Smith’s who you thought would have thrived with all those students to sell to moved out. Even McDonalds moved out.

You can’t buy a decent pair of shoes in Grays, it’s full of throwaway fashion.

  2. nice picture you chose to portray Grays high street, its sealed off with police incident tape, maybe someone just got stabbed.

  3. The council is being given £40m to improve Grays Town Centre as a bribe to the voters to keep voting Tory as TBC is now Tory-led. A better suggestion would be to spend that £40m on Social Care but, as it’ll be used to improve the town centre instead, may I suggest buying enough explosives to wipe out what’s there now as ronood is correct in saying that Grays is a dump.
