C2C explain why there are no trains from Grays on the day of the London Marathon

YT has been contacted by a number of resident who are running the London Marathon on Sunday April 23rd and have just found out that there are no trains from Grays that day.

So we asked C2C to confirm and explain.

A spokesperson said: “Yes, Network Rail are undertaking improvement works on that day in the Grays area. I believe this is part of a programme over three successive weekends working on a bridge adjacent to Grays station but they will be able to advise on the details.

This means we can only run our trains as far as Chafford Hundred. We will be operating eight buses an hour from Grays to Chafford Hundred, with capacity for over 750 people each hour. This will provide significantly more capacity than the normal peak demand for trains from Grays on Marathon day.

There is one FA Cup semi final scheduled for that date. Any local fans heading to that game will be travelling at later times to those who are watching (or running in) the marathon.
