A HARD-working eco-group in Grays has claimed that the Thurrock Council cleansing team has destroyed newly planted trees.
Grays Phoenix was set up to clean up the river front and surrounding areas. The group has won many plaudits for their energy, spirit and results.
But members expressed their anger at the weekend when they discovered that newly planted saplings had been destroyed. They pointed the finger at Thurrock Council.
A Thurrock Council spokesperson said: “Thurrock Council and Grays Phoenix are working together to resolve the misunderstanding at Grays Riverside.
“Thurrock Council continues to support groups whose aim is to keep Thurrock’s open spaces clean and tidy”
