Let’s clean up Grays Beach Park

Grays Beach

THE Lightship Café, a local community group, in partnership with Thurrock Council, is making moves to clean up Grays Beach Park and reopen the once popular Café in time for the summer.

The clean-up event at 10am on Monday 1 May – will mark the first major clear up and opening – and organisers need help from the whole community for a variety of tasks.

Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Sue MacPherson said: “We know there have been challenges at Grays Beach Park. The council has worked hard to ensure the damage caused by Anglian Water’s flooding problem last year have been resolved.

“We can now move full steam ahead with re-creating a beach park our residents can once again enjoy to the full.

“That’s why I’m so pleased to be working with experienced community groups like the Lightship Café and Grays Riverside Community Big Local who have raised the initial support and funding so that the café can be reopened. I absolutely know it will be a success with them on board.

“However, they will need everybody’s help, whether you bring along a broom, or help move some tables, do a spot of painting or tidy outside, we need all the help we can get! We’re especially looking for local tradespeople who can help with installing CCTV, repairs and other skills.”

Sandra Valentine, a local resident and a Director of Lightship Café said: “We’re thrilled to be taking on the challenge of Grays Beach Park – It can be so much more than it is now, and we’re ready to roll up our sleeves and get started.

“We need materials, tradesman and regular sets of hands to get the place up to the standard we know it can be.

“We have set up our social media accounts, so stayed tuned and watch this place transform – we know there are lots of people in the local area who would like to help us out – now is your chance. We hope to see you are there!”
