A SOUTH Ockendon resident has slammed to state of the roads and streets in South Ockendon.

Craig Cook has published a series of photographs on social media that appear to show roads such as Daiglen Drive and shopping areas such as Derwent Parade in a very untidy state.

Mr Cook said: “I am sick and tired of the state of where I live. I see the occasional cleaner but don’t see any enforcement officers.

“It is the same thing, day in and day out. There are plenty of bins about but people just keep chucking litter on the floor

“There are other problems as well including the amount of HGV lorries parking up in South Ockendon.

A Thurrock Council spokesperson said: “Since last year the council has increased its street cleaning operations.

“In high footfall areas in Ockendon such as Derwent Parade, there is daily cleaning by street sweepers, other areas receive a manual sweep at least once every two weeks.

“Roads are mechanically swept a minimum of every 10 days.

“The council has also ensured a robust approach to those who litter the streets which has resulted in over 1,000 fines being issued across the borough.

Belhus councillor, Angela Sheridan (UKIP) has told YT that she is aware of the problem. Cllr Sheridan said: “I am aware of the problem and am co-ordinating between residents and the council.

“Mr Cook might want to also contract the portfolio holder for environment, cllr Pauline Tolson.”
