OUR Octogenarian blogger, Mr Peter Perrin has a word of advice for th enough people of Thurrock.
Mr Perrin’s blog:- “A Word in Your Ear”!
Despite the blustery wet conditions, a respectable number of people attended the “hustings” meeting held in the Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, Grays last night, 5th June 2017.
The four candidates, Jackie Doyle-Price (Con), John Kent (Lab), Kevin McNamara (Lib-Dems) and Tim Aker (UKIP) battled to persuade people to vote for them.
I do not intend to give a detailed report of the meeting as that will, no doubt, be fully reported by the local media, suffice to say that all four candidates acquitted themselves well when answering the questions put to them.
The trouble I have when deciding for whom to cast my vote is that each party has a manifesto with which I partly agree or disagree, which makes it difficult to give any party my unqualified support.
However, I will not opt to “sit on the fence”, all you get by doing so is a sore backside.
I take this opportunity to appeal to “young” voters i.e. those under the age of 30+. I am convinced that if every “young” voter made the effort and cast their vote on Thursday it would transform the result, hopefully for the better.
At the age of 84 I have been having my say for many years, and will continue to do, so but now is the time for the young to exercise the power they have by means of the ballot box.
Please make the effort and vote. TOMORROW BELONGS TO YOU!
