ESSEX Police been made aware of people going door-to-door to collect clothing for victims of the Grenfell fire in London.
A spokesperson said: “Whilst this is a very worthy cause and probably genuine, this is an unlicensed collection and therefore there is no way of guaranteeing the authenticity of this or any similar charity collection.
“Any door-to-door collections whether for clothing, food or money should have licenses that the collectors are willing to show, ensuring donations reach the intended victims.
“Again, whilst we have no intelligence to suggest this was not genuine, we ask that people only give to licensed collectors or directly to licensed charity donation points. Thank you”.
