Harold Wood CC 1st XI 177-10
Orsett & Thurrock CC 1st XI 181-4
By Bill West
ORSETT & Thurrock bounced back from last weekend’s thrashing at Buckhurst Hill to convincingly defeat Harold Wood by six wickets.
The hosts batted first and the top order got them off to a great start.
Opener Mdaminul Isalm Shihan made 65 and Afra Malik hit 31, but the rest of the line-up couldn’t offer much support and they ended up on what was a below-par 177. Paul Bennett (3-34) removed the vital pair of Shihan and Malik, while there was two each for Shahid Khan and Agha Tahir and one apiece for Nawaz Ahmad Jan and Joe Mitchell.
The runs were chased down comfortably for the loss of four wickets. Nawaz Ahmad Jan (68*) and Mark Pavitt (41*) made the majority of the runs, with the 1st XI wrapping up proceedings in the 35th over.
