ESSEX Firefighters were called to a fire in a semi-detached house thanks to working smoke alarms which alerted the residents and neighbours to the fire in the property at Limesdale Close, Corringham.
Station Officer Geoff Wheal, Corringham Fire Station, said:
“When we arrived we could see smoke coming from the first floor windows. Fire crews wearing breathing apparatus immediately entered the property to locate and extinguish the fire.
“Due to the intense smoke on the stairs and first floor there was no visability what so ever, so fire crews had to use a thermal imaging camera to help them locate which room the fire was in. Firefighters managed to quickly extinguish the fire and stop it spreading to the adjoining properties.
The first floor bedroom has been completed destroyed, and the remaining rooms on the first floor have suffered heat and smoke damage. The ground floor has also suffered some smoke damage.
An investigation to find the cause of the fire is underway.
