Teenage boy receives life threatening injuries in collision between motorbike and van in Tilbury

A 16 year old boy has serious injuries and is in a potentially life threatening condition in hospital, following a collision between a motorcycle and delivery van in Tilbury.

An 18-year-old man also received serious leg injuries during the incident, which happened just before 11am on Saturday August 19, in St Chads Road, close to its junction with Calcutta Road.

A white, Triumph Sprint motorcycle was travelling on St Chads Road towards Chadwell, when it was involved in a collision with a Red Ford Transit van.

The rider and pillion passenger, who are both from Tilbury, were taken hospital in London.

The driver of the van, a 36-year-old man from Grays, was not injured.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and has been released under investigation.

The road was closed for a number of hours while Forensic Collision Investigators examined the scene.
