Mental Health: Reach out for a chance to save lives

Mental Health

REACH Out for Mental Health is a not for profit community interest company looking to reduce the number of attempted and completed suicides in Essex by providing an out of hours drop in service at Hardie Park, Stanford-le-Hope.

They are looking for volunteer befrienders to operate this much needed service once a week from six to 9.30pm.

The role of a volunteer is to perform a befriending role for those using the service and to develop a safe, trusting and non-judgmental environment for them to reflect on their situation, emotions and their options. Individuals using the service will have the opportunity to talk and really be heard without judgment or fear of repercussions.

This work is designed to empower, promote independence and resilience and to ultimately reduce the level of suicidality.

No previous experience or qualifications are required as full training will be provided.

However this role won’t be suitable for everyone and there is a selection process which follows the training.

An open evening for would-be volunteers will be held on Wednesday, 8 November from 8 to 9pm at Hardie Park to offer more information on what to expect from this role and to answer any questions people may have. Supporting individuals feeling suicidal is challenging but also enormously rewarding.

If you feel you would be suitable for this role email info@reachoutfmh.co.uk
