Bostik Premier

Hendon 4 v 1 Thurrock

Report courtesy of Thurrock FC

THURROCK travelled to Silver Jubilee Park looking for their first point on the road but had to come home empty handed. Injuries and suspensions saw debuts for Hamilton Bunga and David Agboola in the middle of the back four.

It was nearly a case of déjà-vu as inside the first minute Remi Sutton takes a short free kick to Lewwis Spence who feeds off to Charlie Stimson. Stimson holds the ball fending off two defenders before getting the ball back to Spence who shoots just wide of the far post. Spence regains the ball from the goal kick and attempts a Rooney inspired lob from distance but clears the crossbar.

Hendon apply pressure, a corner is long to the far post and Ashley Nathaniel-George is first to the second ball shooting across the goal and wide of the far post. A cross from the left is headed clear by Hamilton Bunga and fizzed back in taking a couple of deflections before striking the post.

Hendon got their noses in front just after quarter of an hour. The ball is moved left to right and Casey Maclaren shoots from outside the area, the ball taking a deflection before settling in the net. A few minutes later and the lead is extended. David Agboola runs the ball out of Thurrock’s box and travels deep into Hendon territory, his final pass however is cut out and from the counter Dave Diedhiou shoots from distance and again a deflection sees the ball past Jake Jessup.

Dennis Oli wins the ball in midfield and pings the ball for Sutton to chase down. Stimson steps over the cross in letting the ball run through to Reece Morgan who flashes his shot over the bar. Hendon’s third is the tidiest as Niko Muir makes himself half a yard of space to spin and shoot into the far side netting beyond Jessup’s reach.

Thurrock continue to look for a way back. Sutton sets Oli for a shot which Tom Lovelock gets just enough of a glove to, the ball falls to Morgan and his shot hits the upright. Sutton throws to Stimson, receives the ball back again and floats a cross t the far post that almost creeps in and has to be pushed behind with Morgan in close attention. The corner is punched clear and Hendon break at speed forcing Jessup out of his area to clear.

Oli’s quick feet allow him to nick the ball and deftly flick over the head of his covering marker to Morgan. Morgan plays the ball square to Spence who is fouled just outside the D. Stimson inserts himself into the wall spinning away to allow Spence to curl the ball through the gap and striking the base of the post. Reece Morgan intercepts a pass out of defence and carries the ball forwards, draws Lovelock off his line but his delicate lob floats over the goal.

On the stroke of half time Thurrock get one back. Sutton surges forwards and is tripped as he gets into the area and a penalty is awarded. Lovelock guesses the right way but Ronnie Winn’s shot is inch perfect and beyond his reach as it brushes the post on its way in.

Half Time: Hendon 3 – 1 Thurrock
Winn almost gets a second straight from the restart but his twenty yard effort is deflected for a corner. A fine save from Jessup follows before Spence releases Morgan on the right wing. A good cross in is back-heeled by Stimson for Winn but the ball is cleared off his feet.

Hendon restore the three goal advantage as Christian Baffour-Akoto catches an ankle in the area. Niko Muir steps up and side foots the spot kick straight down the middle.

As Thurrock continue to push on they are susceptible to counter attacks and Daniel Uchechi blazes down the pitch before laying out to an overlapping player who finds himself one-on-one with Jessup. Jessup stands his ground and pulls off an outstanding save.

The game enters the final minutes but Thurrock’s never give up attitude is on show once more. Reece Morgan finding Michael Pindy and continuing his run to receive the ball back again and cross to the far post picking out Stimson who sees his header saved. Timothy Ogunrinde hustles, bustles and battles forcing the ball to be played back to the keeper which Oli intercepts before flicking the ball beyond Lovelock but also beyond the far post.
