Thurrock Ladies 2s 1 vs East London 4s 0

Thurrock got their first win of the season after a fine defensive performance. With Thurrock’s only short corner of the match Sasa Naidoo forced the ball home to give a goal against the run of play. This lifted Thurrock’s performance and an incredible goal line clearance from Laura Milsom kept Thurrock’s clean sheet intake. With exceptional performances by all players and last ditch challenges to score remained 0-1 for an excellent win.

Thurrock Ladies 3s 3 vs Braintree 2s 4

A back to full strength Ladies 3s team pushed back just as it started to rain at Palmers on Saturday afternoon.

The weather did not dampen their spirits and Sally Willett scored first from a well worked short corner. Braintree soon hit back and scored twice. Sally Willett came to Thurrock’s rescue and scored again from another short corner making it 2-2. Braintree went into the lead again but Thurrock kept the pressure on and Chloe Oakley equalised the score at 3-3.

It looked like Thurrock were going to take away a very well deserved point from the match but Braintree were awarded a short corner right at the end and a magnificent strike beat the Thurrock defence and goalkeeper to bag them all 3 points. Final score 3-4. Special mentions for Izzy Overy, Millie George and Charlotte Mailey for great performances. Girl of the game was awarded to Lucy Cowman.

Thurrock Mens 2s 0 vs Old Loughtonians Academy 4

Starting the game with only 10 men, Thurrock were under pressure from a well-drilled Loughton side and conceded a goal after 10 minutes when a shot was not adequately cleared and fell to an attacker whose close range shot sneaked inside the post. Once at full strength, Thurrock battled hard and pushed the visitors backwards with Jay Lamb dominating the midfield and linking with attackers Ben Clark and Henry Hudson but unable to penetrate a solid Academy defence. In the second half Loughton reorganised their attack and defenders Matt Skinner, Hayden Keeler Stone and George McAllister marshalled by Aaron Saunders were stretched and eventually conceded from a well-struck short corner. Soon afterwards a shot which hit a foot on the line resulted in the award of a penalty flick. However an athletic dive by Ryan Jones deflected the ball around the post.

As the visitors maintained their effort Jones was called into action many times to make some outstanding saves earning him Man of the Match but he was unable to prevent a third goal from a Loughton short corner. The game became a little bit heated and the umpires were forced to issue yellow cards and temporarily suspend a player from each team. In the last 5 minutes persistent dissent by a Thurrock player saw the issue of a yellow card and the visitors took full advantage of the reduction in numbers to add a fourth goal.
