A THURROCK Independent (formerly Ukip) councillor has been expelled from the group after mouthing obscenities at a council meeting.
Foul-mouthed Ockendon councillor, Kevin Wheeler appears to utter the word “w****r” as well as make the masturbatory hand gesture towards Labour councillors seated nearby.
His disgraceful behaviour came during a question and answer session on Orsett Hospital at a meeting held on Wednesday night (Jan 31st) at the Civic Offices.
A Thurrock Independents Spokesman said: “Cllr Wheeler’s behaviour in three full council’s in a row has been unacceptable. He was previously suspended by his former party and was allowed to join the Thurrock Independents on a ‘one last chance’ basis.
“The newly formed Thurrock Independents are built on the ethos of ‘better politics for all’.
Cllr Wheeler’s behaviour has fallen below this standard and so he has been immediately expelled by the party.”
Cllr Wheeler had been reprimanded for uttering an obscenity before. He had also just come back from a suspension after “haranguing” a member of the public outside the council offices. On that occasion, he had a “clear the air meeting” and apologised.
A Thurrock Council spokesperson said: “Thurrock Council has received no complaints about Councillor behaviour or conduct following last night’s (Wednesday 31 January) Full Council meeting.
Thurrock Labour group leader, cllr Oliver Gerrish said: “Although I did not witness Councillor Wheeler’s actions on the evening of full council, having seen Your Thurrock’s video he does appear to have behaved in a way that is clearly unacceptable.
“Ultimately, Councillor Snell and his Independent UKIP group are accountable to the electorate for their standard of behaviour as councillors. I am sure that residents will draw their own conclusions from this incident.”
Cllr Wheeler was elected in May 2015. He is due for re-election in 2019.
