Thurrock Labour call for action not words on tackling crime

Lynn Worrall

THURROCK Labour’s Shadow Portfolio Holder for Public Protection, Cllr Lynn Worrall, has demanded action on the massive increase in crime and anti-social behaviour in Thurrock.

Speaking this week, she said, “The time for talk is now over – we need action on crime and ASB immediately. Residents across Thurrock cannot be left to face this rising tide of violent crime alone.

“We need the police resources that we have called for to be made available in Thurrock without delay. We need criminals to know that they will not get away with committing crime and that they will be caught and punished.

“The council must also be made to play its part – there must be zero tolerance for council tenants who make lives miserable for others and more must be done to work with private landlords who place tenants in their buy to let houses.

Our Children’s Services must ensure that they understand and react to vulnerable youngsters becoming involved in drug crime, we should ensure we have a high visibility presence in key public spaces and our officers must make tackling crime a top priority.

“I am calling on the Tory Leader of the Council to set out what he will be doing to tackle crime and ASB, to inform us on what conversations he has held with police and to show that he will be acting swiftly and decisively on the issue.

“As the new chair of the Cleaner, Greener and Safer Scrutiny Committee I will be pursuing this relentlessly to hold those responsible to account and ensure we drive action, not just words.”
