EMERGENCY services descended on a beauty salon in Grays town centre this evening following an incident which appears to have been an attack involving a toxic substance reports the Thurrock Independent.
The drama broke out around 6.30pm on Cromwell Road, Grays – which has now been cordoned off.
It appears the incident happened at the recently opened Locks of Love salon which an eye-witness said a man ran into after something was thrown in his face.
Police officers at the scene have declined to give out any information, though detectives are in charge of the incident. Two officers from the police forensic unit arrived at the scene and donned protective clothing.
The eye-witness, who did not wish to be named, said: “I I was walking along Orsett Road and heard a lot of screaming. I looked over and a man ran into the building and they locked the door.
“People then started washing his face. It seems it was some sort of acid attack.”
Two fire engines, two ambulances and five police cars were in attendance, though the firefighters and ambulance crews have now left the scene.
One of the ambulances took the victim of the attack away after he initially received treatment at the scene.
