CHAIRMAN Vic Gray started the meeting by apologising for not rescheduling the as England footballers were beating Columbia all through the meeting. He welcomed Councillor Jane Pothecary, one of the three Thurrock Councillors who are represented on the committee.
Treasurer Jill Snelling reported that 16 societies had received grants to the value of £8637.13. Two more societies were yet to submit their accounts. There was a balance of £8637.13 in the bank
Vic reported a year of “ups and downs.”
Three societies had folded and the Family History Society is struggling with the increasing cost of meeting halls. Another society will be leaving its rehearsal space of 42 years this Autumn.
Vic had represented Arts Thurrock at several official meetings and cautioned members that they do not have enough profile in the community despite the massive participation in societies.
On the up side, Courts Players production of “One Man, Two Guvners” had won Best Play and Best Production at the prestigious Eastern Region NODA awards. While Thurrock Operatic Society On Stage (T.O.P.S On Stage) were nominated for Best Musical award.
Members were advised to adopt model Health and Safety, Safeguarding and Data Protection policies drawn up by Vic.
An application for associate membership was received from Thurrock Lacemakers.
