Thurrock Indys back call for emergency council meeting over Orsett Hospital

Thurrock Indep

THE Thurrock Independent Party has backed Labour’s call for an emergency council meeting over the closure of Orsett Hospital.

Thurrock Independents Party Leader, Cllr Luke Spillman said: “The Thurrock Independents back the meeting that has been called. However, we still insist that we need to install a pro-Orsett Hospital administration. Only then can we use the council’s resources to fight the closure.

“It’s quite clear that the consultation was far from satisfactory. There are now serious question marks surrounding previous promises to retain all of the services.

“I met with the Thurrock Labour leader, Cllr Gerrish, on the 13th July, to discuss how our two parties can cooperate to fight the closure. I also met with a representative of the new campaign group today.

“It has become clear to me that there is no plan, at present, in place to save the hospital.

“Designing a robust action plan to prevent the closure should be considered the most important task at hand. I look forward to working closely with all those opposed to the closure in this endeavour.”
