Work underway on 29 new council homes
Thurrock Council is building the five-storey residential block on the former Tops Social Club site in Argent Street.
The development will include 23 parking spaces, a children’s playground, entrance foyer and other facilities, as well as the 15 two-bed flats, eight one-bed flats and six three-bed maisonettes.
The council marked the official start of construction with a ground breaking at the site today.
Cllr Barry Johnson, portfolio holder for Housing, said: “This development will provide much-needed affordable housing in an excellent location, close to the riverfront, town centre and railway station.
“The modern design will also visually improve the area and is another example of our ambitious regeneration plans in Grays.
“I am delighted work is now underway on the scheme and look forward to seeing the finished building.”
The new building is being constructed by Rooff and is expected to be completed in early 2020.
