The initiative, which kicks off on Small Business Saturday (Saturday, 1 December), includes all council-owned car parks, as well as its pay and display on-street parking.

Cllr Aaron Watkins, portfolio holder for Environment and Highways, said: “Christmas can be a very expensive time of the year so I am delighted that we are in a position to again save our residents some money by providing free parking on Saturdays throughout December.

“By making it easier to shop locally, we hope the free parking in our car parks will also have a positive impact on our high streets and the local economy. We have excellent shops and businesses in Thurrock and it is great to be able to show them our support over the busy Christmas period.

“I hope the initiative will also encourage people to discover some of the fantastic attractions and events the borough has to offer this winter.”
