OFELIA, aged 11, from St. Thomas of Canterbury School, Grays has been chosen as the winner of Euro MP Alex Mayer’s Christmas Card competition.

Alex Mayer MEP will visit St. Thomas of Canterbury School this Friday to congratulate Ofelia and present her with her Christmas card.

Over 500 schoolchildren entered this year’s competition; with pictures showing a range of festive scenes. Ofelia won the competition with her drawing of a reindeer.

The image will now be on the front of the MEP’s Christmas card, which is delivered to local charities and organisations.

The runners-up were Hermione from Bure Valley School in Aylsham and Jacob from Milidene Primary School in Tiptree.

Alex Mayer MEP, who picked the winning entry, said: “I’ve had a great time looking through so many Christmassy entries, in fact my office has turned into a Winter wonderland! It’s clear we have some very talented budding young artists in Essex!

“Extra special congratulations to Ofelia. What a festive and brilliantly evocative design.”
