THURROCK Council leader, cllr Rob Gledhill and newly elected Aveley councillor David Van Day have reflected on their recent by-election victory.
Newly elected Conservative Councillor for Aveley David Van Day, said “I would like to thank the residents of Aveley for trusting me and electing me to serve as their councillor. I am glad they saw through the negative rhetoric of the other parties and now have a councillor who will be doing his utmost to represent them.
“I made a number of promises and have fulfilled my first one having just met with the Leader of the Council to make clear my objections to anymore homes being built on the green belt in Aveley.”
Conservative Group Leader Rob Gledhill added “This is a fantastic result and shows that delivering a zero percent Council Tax increase, putting extra police on the street and continuing to deliver our Clean It, Cut It, Fill It programme is what residents want to see not scaremongering over housing numbers and promises from politicians they know they can’t deliver.
“David has made good on his first promise and has outlined his objections to any building on the greenbelt around Aveley. It just shows that Thurrock Conservatives can and will deliver for our residents across the borough.”
